PARLEYS’ AIR Strategy

PARLEYS’ AIR Strategy is focused on controlling the fast-growing marine pollution.

The initials AIR stand for: Avoid. Intercept. Redesign

  • AVOID plastics & emissions wherever possible

  • INTERCEPT plastic waste & pollutants

  • REDESIGN materials, methods & mindsets

All the activities and innovations of project CAP adhere to the tenets of the AIR strategy. The project is designed to mitigate plastic leakage by decreasing plastic consumption and intercepting materials for recycling, as well as supporting redesign through development of a Climate Smart Innovative Webportal.

AVOID

(REDUCE, REPLACE)

The project aims to decrease plastic usage by spreading awareness at the community level, discouraging the use of Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) and Multi-Layer Plastics (MLPs) through various means such as producing video documentaries, conducting awareness programs, and publishing research reports.

INTERCEPT

(RETRIEVE, RECYCLE)

To tackle plastic waste, the project will establish Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) and engage informal waste workers (IWWs), community members, and youth groups in collecting plastic waste. Additionally, it plans to set up a PET recycling facility and enhance an existing HDPE/LDPE recycling facility to ensure effective interception of plastic waste.

REDESIGN

(AWARENESS)

The project aims to redesign plastic consumption patterns and behaviors through activities involving youth engagement. This includes forming a youth cohort, organizing stakeholder dialogues for the standardization of recycled products, and raising awareness in schools through Waste Smart School Clubs (WSCs).
